Washington Street to Close for Grind & Overlay Project

Washington Street traffic impacts will change next week as the City of Spokane continues its grind and overlay project. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be alert for frequent traffic changes. Please slow down for everyone's safety and make extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. S. Washington Street - between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue

Starting on Monday, Sept. 28, Washington Street will be closed between 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue. The closure will expand to close Washington Street between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Bernard Street/Ben Garnett Way will be open to allow for patient access only to the new Inland Imaging Breast Center.

Construction work includes curb ramp replacements for ADA accessibility, stormwater system upgrades, and replacement of a water system distribution main. The project has an accelerated construction schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of October.

What to expect:

• Washington Street will be closed between 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue starting on Monday, Sept. 28. Drivers traveling north on Grand Boulevard will be detoured at 7th Avenue to Division Street.
• The Washington Street closure will expand to Washington Street between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue starting on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Drivers traveling north on Bernard Street will be detoured at 14th Avenue to Monroe Street.
• 8th Avenue remains closed between McClellan Street and Washington Street.
• The new Inland Imaging Breast Center at 799 S Stevens St. will be accessible via Stevens Street. Patients coming from the South can take Monroe/Lincoln Street, turn east onto 5th Avenue and then south onto Stevens Street, reaching the center just south of 7th Avenue.
• Inland Imaging patients traveling from the South Hill also will be able to access the new Breast Center at 799 S Stevens Street via Bernard Street/Ben Garnett Way. This access is intended just for these patients.
• Drivers may experience significant slowdowns near medical facilities and Lewis & Clark High School.
• Local access will be maintained for businesses throughout the route.
