October 3, 2025, Peoria, IL - Yesterday, Adrian L. Morris, 29, was charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon for a shooting that injured two people in downtown Peoria early Sunday morning. The State has filed a Petition to Detain Morris, which a judge will hear later today.
On September 28, 2025, around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Main Street in downtown Peoria. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. A short time later, officers learned a 29-year-old male had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
During the investigation, officers discovered the shooting was captured on surveillance video, which showed Morris leaning against his car with both victims nearby. Morris can be seen firing a gun twice, striking both males.
Morris was taken into custody on October 1, 2025. When interviewed by police, Morris admitted to firing the gun but claimed self-defense. However, neither the victim nor anyone else is seen with a weapon.
This investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
