Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade to discuss the situation in Sudan

20 Jan 2026, 10:09

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade will meet tomorrow, Tuesday January 20th, for a discussion on the situation in Sudan, including the deepening humanitarian crisis and the protection of civilians and human rights defenders.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House at 3pm.

Representatives from Concern Worldwide, TrĂ³caire and Front Line Defenders will appear at the meeting.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John Lahart said: "The situation in Sudan remains one of the world's gravest and most under-reported crises. The conflict continues to cause devastating loss of life and widespread displacement, and has created extraordinary humanitarian need.

The Committee welcomes the opportunity to hear directly from Concern, TrĂ³caire and Front Line Defenders on conditions on the ground and the risks faced by civilians, aid workers and human rights defenders. We will also discuss the wider international effort to secure humanitarian access, civilian protection and accountability for violations of international law."
