FEMA Assistance Continues

MADISON - Additional FEMA help may be available from the April storms and flooding in 19 designated counties in Wisconsin and the Oneida Nation.

Continued Housing Assistance

If you received initial rental assistance from FEMA because your home was not safe to live in, and you are still working toward your permanent housing plan, continued temporary housing assistance may be available.

To be considered, you must:

1. Show you used the initial FEMA rental assistance to pay for temporary housing.
2. Be unable to return to your pre-disaster residence because it is still not safe to live in or is no longer available because of the disaster.
3. Not have the financial ability to obtain housing without assistance.
4. Show that you are working toward a permanent housing plan.

If you were initially approved for rental assistance, an application for continued temporary housing assistance will be mailed to you 15 days after the grant is approved. If you do not receive one, contact FEMA by calling 800-621-3362.

Check Those Heating Systems, Stay in Touch with FEMA

Take the time now to ensure your furnace and water heater are operating safely, and they weren't damaged by the April storms and flooding. FEMA grants may be available to help repair those items and replace them if they were destroyed by floodwater.

If you received a FEMA grant for repair of your furnace or water heater and later discovered those items need replacing, you can use the FEMA appeal process for additional grant funds. Applicants have 60 days to appeal and must submit a letter with a verified contractor's estimate for replacement of the furnace or water heater.

Submit Documents to FEMA

Send in your request for continued temporary housing or additional money to repair or replace your heating systems in one of the following ways:

• Online: This is the fastest option to submit documents. If you have a FEMA online account, upload your documents electronically. To set up the account first, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, click on "Check Status" and follow the directions.

• By fax: 800-827-8112, Attention: FEMA
• In-person: Visit any Disaster Recovery Center to submit your appeal. Find a center here: fema.gov/DRC.

Reminder: Application Deadline is August 31, 2026

Even if you were visited by a FEMA assessment team in May or called 2-1-1 to report your home damage, you must still apply to be considered for federal assistance. Start the application process by going online to DisasterAssistance.gov or calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. If you use video relay service, captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service.
