I&M Seeks Public Input on Projects Designed to Support Reliable Power

From powering homes and schools to supporting local businesses and essential services, reliable electricity is an essential part of everyday life. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is planning several upgrades to the power system across Indiana to help ensure electricity is there when customers need it.

The projects would add more than 150 miles of transmission lines designed to help keep electricity flowing reliably for customers and communities.

• Eastern Indiana Grid Reliability Project: Approximately 60 miles of new 765-kV transmission line between the Greentown Substation in Howard County and the Indiana-Ohio state line.
• Greentown-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project: Approximately 50 miles of new 765-kV transmission line between the Greentown Substation in Howard County and the Sorenson Substation in Huntington County.
• Lulu-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project: Approximately 75 miles of new 765-kV transmission line between the Sorenson Substation in Huntington County and a location near the Indiana-Michigan state line.

Community feedback will play an important role as routes are evaluated and refined before any final decisions are made.

"A reliable electric system requires planning years in advance, but it also requires listening to the communities that may be affected," said Rob Keisling, I&M external affairs manager. "We're committed to working with residents, landowners and local leaders, sharing information and gathering feedback as we evaluate potential routes and move through the planning process."

No final routes have been selected as I&M continues to gather input from residents, landowners and local stakeholders alongside engineering, environmental and land-use considerations.

If you live in or near one of the study areas, now is the time to learn more and make your voice heard. Community members are encouraged to review project information, attend an open house, ask questions and share feedback as I&M evaluates potential routes.
