Follows Buchanan's November 2024 Letter Demanding Accountability
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Vern Buchanan released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that an internal investigation of Biden administration Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employees uncovered political discrimination:
"Under the Biden administration, FEMA officials engaged in blatant political discrimination by refusing aid to Floridians displaying Trump signs following last year's back-to-back hurricanes. This was a disgraceful abuse of power that put lives and property at risk for purely partisan reasons. I was proud to lead a letter last year demanding answers, and now that the truth is coming to light, those responsible must be held fully accountable. If criminal conduct occurred, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. No American should be denied emergency assistance because of their political beliefs."
DHS's announcement follows Buchanan's November 2024 letter cosigned by 54 House colleagues demanding answers and accountability after revelations that FEMA staff avoided providing storm assistance to homes displaying campaign signs for President Trump.
