City of Henderson Celebrates Earth Month With Sustainability Milestones

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 15, 2026) - In celebration of Earth Month this April, the City of Henderson is proud to highlight its progress in creating a more sustainable and resilient future. Living in an arid region, the City understands the impacts of extreme heat, drought and air quality and continues to build on its sustainability efforts to protect the environment, save water and make streets safer for all.

Here's a Look at What the City and Community Achieved Together in 2025:

Connected & Equitable Transportation: Navigating a safe and clean Henderson

  • 92% of neighborhoods are within walking distance of a sidewalk, 85% of a park, 82% of a bike lane
  • Reimagine Boulder Highway project underway to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and transit riders
  • Ride Smart: Launched an e-bike and scooter safety campaign to educate local students
  • City employees saved more than 250,000 miles of driving through carpooling, biking or working from home
  • Recognized as a 2026 Best Workplace for Commuters® (BWC™) for leadership in sustainable commuting initiatives

Sustainable Water Systems: Making Every Drop Count through H2One Campaign

  • Removed more than 644,000 square feet of decorative grass in City parks (equivalent to over 11 NFL-sized football fields), saving 36 million gallons of water annually
  • Converted more than 1.5 million square feet of water-thirsty grass to drought-tolerant grass, saving an additional 31 million gallons of water annually
  • More than 1,200 students participated in water conservation education programs

Smart Development and Clean Energy: Using Nevada Sunshine to Power Daily Life

  • Residents and businesses added 14,000 kW of rooftop solar, enough to power over 100,000 homes
  • Parks maintenance team began testing electric landscaping tools to reduce noise and pollution
  • Expansion of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure across City facilities

Resilient & Healthy Communities: Keeping Neighborhoods Clean and Green

  • More than 1,000 families joined community cleanup events:
    • Recycled over 17 tons of paint, 200 gallons of oil, 8,000 pounds of paper and 12,000 pounds of e-waste electronics.
  • 110 trees distributed to residents and 804 new trees planted in City parks to help keep neighborhoods cool
  • Residents helped turn 1,718 Christmas trees into wood chips for local parks
  • New farmers market at Fox Ridge Park expands access to fresh food options for families
