Coppin State University to Host The Amazing Race for Wellness Walk in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

BALTIMORE - For the past four years, Coppin State University, a Historically Black Institution located on Baltimore's west side, comes together during Fanny Jackson Coppin Week to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month through its Annual Wellness Walk. This event encourages the campus community to prioritize health, movement, and mindfulness.

Hosted by Coppin State University's First Lady, Toinette Jenkins, the walk welcomes students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all fitness levels for an evening of fun, fitness, and friendly competition. This year's theme, "The Amazing Race for Wellness Walk," invites participants to join a dynamic, interactive event that emphasizes awareness while bringing the campus together in the spirit of community.

"To me, the walk is successful if even one person remembers to perform a monthly self-check, schedule a mammogram, or pursue a diagnostic mammogram, especially for communities like African American, Asian, and Latino populations, where awareness is critical," said First Lady Jenkins.

Event Details:

  • Date & Time: Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Location: Coppin State University, Physical Education Complex (PEC), 2523 Gwynns Falls Pkwy, Baltimore, MD 21216 (Campus Map)

The evening will begin with an honorary walk around the track, followed by participants choosing either a walk challenge or the Amazing Race-style competition. Participants are encouraged to share their experience on social media using the event hashtag #CoppinWellnessWalk. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each segment of the race.

Coppin State University designs co-curricular activities like the Wellness Walk to equip students with tools to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. For several years, the walk has been tailored to honor both women and men, symbolized by the pink and blue ribbons, recognizing that breast cancer can affect anyone. The event also highlights additional campus wellness resources, including fitness programs, mental health services, and nutrition workshops, to support students' and improve their holistic development.

This event is open to all members of the Coppin community. It will honor those who have lost their lives to breast cancer, support those currently fighting, and celebrate survivors, while encouraging participants to remain vigilant and in tune with their bodies.

Register today and join the campus community for an evening of health, camaraderie, and fun!
