Hyundai Elevator and LG Uplus have entered into a strategic partnership to advance wireless connectivity, AI and security technologies for smart elevator remote monitoring.

The two companies signed an MOU on Sept. 15 at the Hyundai Group Building in Yeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

At the center of the agreement is Hyundai Elevator's MIRI platform. Hyundai Elevator will establish a stable wireless communications environment for MIRI while expanding cooperation with LG Uplus into AI-driven customer services and security, with a focus on improving the efficiency of remote elevator monitoring.

As part of the agreement, LG Uplus'M2M wireless service technology will be introduced to communications between elevators and the MIRI platform. The companies expect this to improve communications stability and provide a technological foundation for a smart elevator service ecosystem.

MIRI is a smart remote monitoring platform that analyzes elevator operating information in real time and enables rapid monitoring and response. Hyundai Elevator intends to further enhance the platform by integrating AI and security technologies with its communications infrastructure.

The partnership will also include trials of AI voice recognition technology for elevator emergency call services. Emergency call devices play a critical role in allowing passengers to request assistance when trapped inside an elevator or exposed to an urgent situation.

The companies aim to use the technology to improve customer convenience and establish a faster emergency response framework. They will also conduct trials involving AI-based customer consultation and contact center services, perform PoCs for AI solutions and promote technology exchanges.

The scope of cooperation extends to cybersecurity. Hyundai Elevator will review the application of LG Uplus'major security solutions, including U+SASE, an integrated network and security platform, to MIRI. The companies will also conduct PoCs and priority evaluations involving SASE, security monitoring and security equipment and continue technical cooperation in security.

The MOU follows earlier joint development efforts. In 2023, Hyundai Elevator and LG Uplus introduced MIRI View, which uses AI CCTV installed inside elevators to detect abnormal situations such as screaming, collapse or prolonged occupancy and report them to a monitoring center.

Both companies said they will continue developing innovative projects designed to strengthen customer safety and convenience, improve operational efficiency and establish a future-ready elevator service ecosystem.

"The future competitiveness of elevators will be determined by more than mechanical performance. What will matter is how quickly and accurately they can respond to any situation,"said Choi Seok-gyu, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Elevator's Service Division."By combining our elevator services with LG Uplus'capabilities in AI, communications and security, we will provide customers with a new level of safety and convenience."

"This partnership represents an opportunity to innovate elevator remote monitoring by seamlessly combining AI and security with stable wireless communications,"said Lim Jang-hyuk, executive vice president and head of LG Uplus'Enterprise Customer Group."We will continue close cooperation with Hyundai Elevator to identify and develop innovative initiatives that enhance customer safety and convenience."
