The City of Grand Prairie is kicking off 2026 with community events commemorating the life, leadership, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These annual events provide opportunities for reflection, education, and community gathering in recognition of Dr. King's lasting impact on American history.

The 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. events begin with the MLK Kick Off, featuring prayers and reflections offered by local faith leaders. This gathering marks the start of the city's annual observance and encourages thoughtful reflection on shared values such as service, respect, and civic responsibility.

Uptown Theater

Celebrate Unity Through Music is a free public event at the Uptown Theater featuring performances by local choirs and musicians. The evening highlights music inspired by the history and legacy of the Martin Luther King family and offers residents an opportunity to come together through artistic expression.

The MLK Summit provides a day of educational programming focused on civic engagement and community connection. The free event includes vendors, food, and two panel discussions:
Panel 1: Education | 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Panel 2: Building Community | 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Concessions will be available for purchase. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in discussions centered on Dr. King's principles of nonviolence and public service.
Monday, January 19, 2026 | 10:00 a.m.
The annual MLK Parade and Celebration will take place on Monday, January 19. Parade lineup begins at 8:00 a.m. at 2600 Hospital Blvd., with the parade starting at 10:00 a.m.
The event includes performances by Grand Prairie ISD students, recognition of local community leaders, and a free lunch provided to all participants following the celebration. The parade serves as a longstanding community tradition honoring Dr. King's legacy.
Residents are invited to attend one or more of these events as the City of Grand Prairie continues its annual observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to American history.
