It generates close to USD 215-225 billion in annual revenue and employs roughly 450,000 people directly, and many more indirectly. The sector remains a key economic and political force in France. While demand for processed food is stable, the industry faces growing challenges related to rising production costs, regulatory pressures, and declining international competitiveness.
