The New Jersey State AFL-CIO mourns the passing of Labor Leader Marge Caldwell-Wilson.
The former President of CWA Local 1087 and member of the Trenton City Council, Marge represented working people through the Central Labor Councils of Monmouth, Ocean and Mercer counties. As a former labor candidate, and a dedicated and committed steward of our New Jersey labor movement, Marge walked picket lines, participated in demonstrations, and traveled to Washington to march for workers' rights. She also sponsored a resolution supporting an increase in the minimum wage and worked with our union brother, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, Brian Kamp and the Trenton Housing Authority on a pre-apprenticeship initiative designed to create pathways into skilled employment.
Generous with her wealth of experience as a labor leader and elected official, Marge served as a trainer of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO Labor Candidates School for many years. She was always eager to support the next generation of our labor movement's leaders by instructing them on the importance of recruiting, engaging and motivating volunteers in a political campaign.
Marge will be remembered for her lifetime of service and dedication to our New Jersey labor movement, and to her community. Her work to promote fair wages, collective bargaining, and the dignity of work will continue to inspire us all. Our deepest condolences are with her entire family at this time.
