City-Parish Offices to Close in Observance of Veterans Day

BATON ROUGE, LA - Wednesday, November 5, 2025 - In honor of Veterans Day, all City-Parish offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11.

"Veterans Day is a time to pause and reflect on the incredible courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who have served in our nation's armed forces," said Mayor-President Sid Edwards. "Their service and commitment to defending our freedoms represent the very best of what it means to be an American. We owe them not just our gratitude, but our continued commitment to uphold the values they fought to protect."

Veterans Day was originally referred to as "Armistice Day" and was first observed on November 11, 1919. Armistice Day marked the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution establishing an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday, effective beginning in 1938. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans - living or dead - but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

Emergency operations and essential services, including police, fire, EMS, and residential garbage and recycling collection will continue uninterrupted. Additionally, the North Landfill will be open regular business hours on Tuesday, from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; however, the Starwood Court Collection Facility will be closed.

Residents are encouraged to check the City-Parish website or call 311 for information regarding specific services and reopening schedules.
