Monday, October 19, 2026

SACRAMENTO - Today, Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San José) provides an update on the implementation of ACR 71, a chaptered resolution to designate the portion of State Route 101 in the County of Santa Clara from Story Road to the junction with State Highway Route 280 and State Highway Route 680 as the Little Saigon Freeway.

"I am thrilled to announce we have secured the funding to move forward with the official signage for the Little Saigon Freeway!" said Assemblymember Kalra. "My office will work closely with Caltrans to move this project along. Thank you to all who supported this effort and special thanks to those who helped fundraise: Santa Clara County Supervisor Betty Duong, AAPI Legislative Caucus Chair Mike Fong, and Mr. Hai Huynh, President of the United Vietnamese American Community of NorCal. This has been a true community partnership and I look forward to sharing the next update soon!"

Little Saigon is a vibrant hub for tourists and refugees from across the globe, offering a diverse array of services and businesses, such as restaurants, supermarkets, shopping malls, banks, and jewelry stores serving the Vietnamese American community as well as local residents of San José.

"The Little Saigon sign is a physical realization of an audacious dream that emerged from the ashes of Black April. Refugees from communist oppression, including my parents and tens of thousands more, have built a thriving community in Santa Clara County where everyone belongs," said Supervisor Betty Duong. "I want to thank Assemblymember Ash Kalra for his tireless work championing Little Saigon and the Vietnamese diaspora in Santa Clara County."

"I am happy with the great news that Caltrans has received full funding for the Little Saigon Freeway signage," said Mr. Huynh. "Assemblymember Ash Kalra authored ACR 71 to designate the Little Saigon Freeway, with the strong support of Supervisor Betty Duong, AAPI Legislative Caucus Chair Mike Fong, Mr. Ha Trieu, and community advocates who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality. I am honored to have helped lead the fundraising effort to complete the final part of this journey because the Little Saigon Freeway signage represents the heart and pride of the Vietnamese community."
