LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today announced MitchKamin will serve as her new Chief of Staff. In this role, Kamin will continue the Mayor's momentum moving Los Angeles in a new direction, building on historic decreases in homelessness, historic lows in homicide totals, comprehensive improvements in citywide safety and the fastest disaster recovery in state history.

"I'm excited to be bringing in Mitch- a seasoned leader and status quo disrupter who will elevate our momentum to move Los Angeles in a new direction," said Mayor Bass. "We will build on historic decreases in homelessness, historic lows in homicide totals, comprehensive improvements in citywide safety and the fastest disaster recovery in state history."

MitchKamin is a second-generation Angeleno who is an effective and experienced leader in the non-profit, commercial, and public sectors. Kamin led Bet Tzedek Legal Services and grew the organization to serve thousands of low-income and elderly people across the city and the nation. He was a founding partner of the Los Angeles office of Covington & Burling, helping to build the branch from the ground up. During his tenure with the firm, he successfully defeated the Trump administration in court on behalf of the City of Los Angeles, stopping the Department of Justice from tying federal resources to immigration enforcement. Both are alumni of Hamilton High School. Kamin will help Mayor Bass continue to disrupt the status quo.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Mayor Bass at this critical time for our City," said Mitch Kamin."I look forward to helping Mayor Bass execute her vision - accelerating progress on homelessness, public safety, and the responsiveness of City Hall, among other pressing goals."

Bass thanked outgoing Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor Carolyn Webb de Macias for her service in the Mayor's Office as well as her decades of exemplary leadership and service to the people of the City of Los Angeles. When Webb de Macias first joined, she committed to lead the Mayor's office for one year - she long surpassed that commitment, helping Mayor Bass lead the first consecutive year decrease in street homelessness in Los Angeles and the fastest disaster recovery in state history. Webb de Macias came out of retirement to serve in this position.

Mayor Bass added, "Carolyn's passion and dedication to this city has made Los Angeles shine. Her indomitable pursuit of advancing social and economic justice for all Angelenos has delivered results that have saved lives, and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for her work."
