HealthPartners Como Clinic breaks ground on new site

HealthPartners broke ground Thursday, Aug. 13, on the new HealthPartners Como Clinic in St. Paul, marking the next chapter for the organization's first clinic and a major investment in care for St. Paul neighborhoods and across the east metro community.

"Our first clinic opened on Como Avenue nearly 70 years ago with a simple but powerful commitment to partner with our patients and members to provide great care that's accessible and affordable for the people in our community," said Andrea Walsh, president and CEO of HealthPartners. "The new Como Clinic honors that legacy while investing in the future of St. Paul. It brings more services, more convenience and more coordinated care to patients who rely on us every day."

The new four-story clinic will offer about 110,000 square feet of space, allowing HealthPartners to expand existing services and add new care options. The new clinic site, located just across the street from its existing location, is scheduled to open in Fall 2027. The current clinic will remain open during construction.

Newly expanded services include primary care, urgent care, pediatrics, dentistry, cardiology, mental health care and eye care. The new location will also add endocrinology, OB-GYN services and a TRIA Orthopedics Clinic and orthopedic Urgent Care. Advanced CT and MRI capabilities will also be added, helping patients receive more care on-site and reducing the need for some additional testing at other locations. Cardiology services are expected to grow to five days a week, improving access and scheduling options for patients.

Como Clinic holds a special place in HealthPartners history. The current clinic opened in 1957, when the organization was known as Group Health. It was the organization's first clinic and helped launch an integrated model of care and coverage that continues today.

HealthPartners has partnered with BWBR, a local architecture firm, and HKS, an architecture firm based out of Chicago, on the design of the new clinic with support from our general contractor, Knutson Construction and engineering partners Dunham, ERA, Loucks.
