The man killed in the stabbing at Dawson Park has been identified as Talmage L. Ellis, 57, of Portland.

The Medical Examiner has ruled his death a homicide caused by stab wounds. His family requests privacy at this time, but has shared a photo of him.

Update: Suspect Arrested After Fatal Stabbing In Northeast Portland

PPB has arrested a suspect in this stabbing. Jermaine D. McKenzie, 50, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Man Deceased After Stabbing In Northeast Portland

A man has been stabbed and killed in the Eliot neighborhood.

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 1:15 p.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to the Dawson Park on reports of a person who was stabbed. Witnesses also reported that a shot was fired in the park. Community members took the victim to Emanuel Hospital where the victim later died. Officers arrived at the park and found a crime scene. Witness reports to officers led to a subject being detained.

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please send an email to [email protected]or call 503-823-0479. Please reference case number 25-267569.

During the investigation, North Williams Avenue will be closed between Northeast Stanton Street and Northeast Morris Street. Dawson Park will also be closed during the investigation.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
