As Mesa approaches the much-anticipated grand opening celebration of the Gateway Library, the City is launching a series of three engaging preview events. Located at 5036 S. Eastmark Parkway, the Gateway Library will be Mesa's first new full-service library in more than 25 years.

Each Saturday preview event will feature a sneak peek at the library's outdoor spaces, opportunities to sign up for a library card, storytime and family-friendly activities from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with storytime at 10 a.m.

Countdown to Gateway Preview Schedule (weather permitting)

•Saturday, Nov. 15 - The Arizona Museum of Natural History's (AZMNH) Mobile Education and Discovery (MEAD) Machine will bring hands-on science and history lessons to families.

•Saturday, Nov. 22 - The Mesa Fire and Medical Department's mini fire truck, "Ember" will make an appearance. The Mini Engine Company 1898 was built in 2023 to honor the department's 125th anniversary.

•Saturday Nov. 29 - The Mesa Parks and Recreation Mesa Outdoor Recreation Experience (MORE) van will offer educational programs and activities, and Santa is also scheduled to make an appearance.

In addition, library staff will be on-site for library card signup on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, starting Nov. 17. Hours are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The Grand Opening event for the Gateway Library will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony and a day of family-friendly activities.

Spanning approximately 28,000 square feet, the Gateway Library features an open, light-filled design with a multipurpose room, THINKspot collaborative makerspace, digital art display wall, outdoor reading patios, and a community plaza for events.

Funding for the Gateway Library is from both the 2018 General Obligation Bond approved by voters and construction sales tax revenues. The library is being built by Willmeng Construction and was designed by Richrd Kennedy Architects, a firm that has designed several award-winning libraries.
