Representatives from government, business, academia, research institutions and civil society attended the conference. Topics discussed included the opportunities that AI brings for economic development, more efficient public administration and increased competitiveness. Other issues covered were trust, safety, regulation, ethics and the social effects of new technologies.

From theory to responsible practice

The main topic of the conference was the shift from discussing the potential of AI to its deliberate and responsible implementation. Special emphasis was given to specific examples of AI application and the design of environments that foster innovation while protecting fundamental rights, democratic values and public interest. Participants also focused on identifying Slovenia's niche opportunities in this rapidly developing field, which presents significant political, economic and security challenges in its use and development.

With its National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence until 2030, Slovenia is laying the foundation for the development of a sovereign, safe and human-friendly AI. The objective is to create the conditions for a wider use of AI in business, research and the public sector, as well as to foster knowledge, skills and innovation. Furthermore, Slovenia is establishing a comprehensive national AI framework connecting research and development capacities, data and computing infrastructure, businesses and the public sector to boost the development and use of AI.

AI is no longer a concept of the future - it has become part of everyday life, increasingly present in business, public administration, education, healthcare, sustainable development and the energy sector, defence and security. It affects international relations and the rapidly changing global conditions and connections in the economy, security and geopolitics, as well as many other areas. Therefore, it is extremely important to recognise its significance and our responsibility in its application and development. Last but not least, we are also responsible for the continuing education and raising awareness in society regarding its use and the recognition of the potential pitfalls of these new technologies.

Technology in the service of people

Many renowned national and international experts from the fields of law, technology, research, ethics and public policy participated in the conference. They confirmed that AI can make a significant contribution to addressing social challenges if its development is based on trust, transparency, responsibility and the inclusion of various stakeholders.

By organising the fifth conference 'Artificial intelligence - from vision to trust' Slovenia confirmed its commitment to the development of AI that serves the people, fosters innovation and co-shapes the European digital future.
