Cass County Celebrates National Emergency Management Awareness Month

The Cass County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed August 2026 as Emergency Management Awareness Month, recognizing the critical role emergency management professionals play in preparing for, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating disasters and emergencies that impact residents and communities.

The proclamation highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and recognizes the efforts of emergency management personnel as they work alongside of first responders, public safety agencies, government partners, volunteers, and community organizations to protect lives and property throughout Cass County.

"Emergency management as a profession is not what it used to be decades ago. Today's emergency managers navigate increasingly complex challenges, from severe weather to cyber incidents, infrastructure failures, and public health emergencies," said Cass County Emergency Manager Cole Baker. "They coordinate across agencies, guide local leaders through uncertainty, and help communities build resilience before disaster strikes. As the profession continues to evolve, so will its impact."

Emergency Management Awareness Month serves as a reminder that preparedness is a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to take proactive steps to prepare for emergencies by creating emergency plans, assembling emergency supply kits, and staying informed about potential hazards that may affect the region.

Throughout the month of August, Cass County Emergency Management will continue to promote preparedness resources and information to help residents better prepare for emergencies and disasters.
