Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs co-chairs the 6th Thailand - Argentina Political Consultations and the Bilateral Economic Consultations

On 1 September 2025, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, together with Mr. Juan Manuel Narvarro, Undersecretary for Foreign Policy and Mr. Roberto Alejandro Salafia, Undersecretary for International Economic Negotiations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, co-chaired the 6th Meetings of Political Consultations (PC) and the Bilateral Economic Consultations (BEC) between Thailand and Argentina, hosted by Argentine side in Buenos Aires.

The meetings were held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Argentina, Thailand's oldest friend in Latin America. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the relationship in all areas of mutual interest, including politics, economics, science and technology, development cooperation, as well as sports and culture. The discussions also covered developments in human rights and regional security. The Thai side highlighted the important role of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati as a leader in women's rights.

The Thai side briefed the meeting on the situation along the Thai - Cambodian border and requested that Argentina, as a State Party to the Convention on Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction or Ottawa Convention, to call on Cambodia to comply with its obligations under the Convention. Both sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Thailand's Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs and Argentina's Foreign Service Institute (ISEN), to promote cooperation in diplomatic training in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Thailand - Argentina diplomatic relations.

In addition, the Deputy Permanent Secretary paid a courtesy call on Mr. Fernando Brun, Secretary for International Economic Relations, and Mr. Julio Moreno Ovalle, Chair of the Argentina - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, promoting high-level exchanges and strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
