GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. This MARADMIN solicits nominations for
assignment as the Assistant Funeral Director at Marine Barracks,
Washington, D.C. (MBW).
2. MBW is tasked with the solemn responsibility of conducting the
ceremonies surrounding the interment, repatriation, and reinterment
of over 500 Marines and Primary Next of Kin at Arlington National
Cemetery (ANC) annually. The MBW Assistant Funeral Director ensures
the Marine Corps keeps faith with our fallen and their families by
ensuring the flawless execution of Marine Corps funeral ceremonies
at ANC. The MBW Assistant Funeral Director is one of the most
visible and consequential Marines in our Corps. The MBW Assistant
Funeral Director represents the Commandant of the Marine Corps via
the Commanding Officer, MBW in the provision of funeral honors
information and assistance to bereaved families coordinating with
sister service and civilian counterparts. In addition, the
Assistant Funeral Director advises the Commandant of the Marine
Corps, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, commanding generals,
commanding officers, Marines, Sailors, and other service members
regarding their duties during funeral honors executed at ANC.
3. Eligibility criteria. Volunteers must meet the following
criteria:
3.a. Hold the grade of staff sergeant or gunnery sergeant.
3.b. Demonstrated superior performance.
3.c. Hold an active secret clearance.
3.d. Per reference (a), the selected Marine must extend or reenlist
to meet a minimum 36 months of obligated service. Assignment orders
will reflect a 36-month tour of duty.
3.e. Possess unquestionable moral character, superlative
leadership, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and
the capacity to serve as an uncompromising example for all to
follow.
3.f. Be within height and weight standards and possess outstanding
physical stamina and personal appearance.
3.g. Completion of required professional military education for
grade.
4. Nominations. Request commanders screen qualified volunteers and
submit nominations no later than 15 December 2025.
4.a. Nominations are to include a letter of recommendation, with
their O-5 level commander's endorsement, and the following
enclosures: Basic Individual Record; Basic Training Record;
Pages 11, UPB, and page 13 of the Official Military Personnel File;
Master Brief Sheet; latest fitness report; professional resumé;
biography; and special duty assignment financial worksheet. The
candidate will also enclose a personal letter explaining why he
or she should be selected as the MBW Assistant Funeral Director.

4.c. Final selections will be forwarded to MMEA to determine
feasibility of assignment. The final selectee should anticipate
permanent change of station orders to MBW for execution during late
Spring of 2026.
