Kemper has taken a series of rate reductions for its Florida auto customers as insurance market conditions in the state have improved following legislative reforms that significantly reduced legal system abuse in Florida. Relatedly, Kemper worked collaboratively with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to return approximately $46.2 million covering the 2023-2025 period in accordance with Florida statutory obligations.
Kemper expects to begin notifying customers who qualify for credits or refunds on November 19. Current customers who qualify will receive credits to their accounts, while former customers who qualify will receive refunds.
"Florida's auto insurance market has shown meaningful improvement, and we are pleased that our customers are benefiting through lower rates," said Stephen J. McAnena, President and CEO of Kemper. "We will continue to evaluate market conditions and price our products appropriately while providing the coverage and service our customers rely on."
The $46.2 million associated with these credits and refunds was previously recognized in Kemper's financial results for the fourth quarter of 2025 and first quarter of 2026. Accordingly, the distribution of these funds does not represent an additional expense or impact on earnings.
