MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Applauds Inclusion of REPAIR Act in Key House Vehicle Safety Hearing

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - On Jan. 13, 2026, the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will convene a hearing titled "Examining Legislative Options to Strengthen Motor Vehicle Safety, Ensure Consumer Choice and Affordability, and Cement U.S. Automotive Leadership." MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers welcomes the Subcommittee's decision to include the REPAIR Act (H.R. 1566), led by Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL), as part of this important legislative discussion.

The REPAIR Act represents a critical step toward protecting consumer choice, fair competition and the long-term health of the U.S. vehicle repair ecosystem. As vehicles become increasingly complex and software-driven, access to repair and diagnostic data is essential to ensure that vehicle owners, independent repairers and suppliers can continue to support safe, affordable and reliable mobility.

MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers and its members have worked consistently and collaboratively with lawmakers, federal agencies and industry stakeholders to elevate the importance of repair access and advance pragmatic policy solutions that reflect the realities of today's connected vehicle technologies. Without congressional action, barriers to repair access risk undermining competition, increasing costs for consumers and limiting their ability to make informed decisions about routine maintenance and vehicle ownership.

"MEMA appreciates the subcommittee's leadership in advancing thoughtful policy solutions that recognize the evolving nature of today's vehicle technologies and the vital role of the aftermarket," said Emily Poladian, president, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers. "Ensuring the right to repair is fundamental to preserving consumer trust, supporting small businesses across the country, and keeping America's vehicle fleet operating safely and efficiently."

MEMA looks forward to continuing its engagement with Congress and industry stakeholders as discussions move forward, advocating for policies that protect consumers, promote competition and keep vehicles and communities moving.
