Rest In Power Alex Pretti

To our neighbors:

The last day Alex Pretti was alive was a day of triumph. Minneapolis went on strike. One thousand businesses closed. One hundred faith leaders were arrested in a civil disobedience action. Tens of thousands marched in the streets. It was called the Day of Truth and Freedom.

Alex Pretti is a hero. We mourn him, Renee Good, George Floyd, Philando Castile, and the lives of all Minnesotans taken by state violence. We echo our neighbors' demands that Immigration Customs and Enforcement be defunded, abolished, and held accountable for its harm. We thank the people across the country and the world for their solidarity and support.

This is not a time for words. It is a time for action. NLG legal workers and attorneys are fighting state repression in Minnesota. Through the Legal Observer program, we document and deter state violence against demonstrators. Through the Habeas project, NLG attorneys are fighting to release people illegally held in immigration detention. Through the Jail Support hotline, demonstrators that are arrested get help from attorneys right away.

Our volunteers are rising to meet the increased needs of our community. But we need your help to increase our capacity. Your support will help us scale up so we can show up.
