SGMC Health Honors Carter with DAISY Award

SGMC Health recognized John Carter, RN, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, honoring the compassionate, skilled care he provides to patients and families.

Carter was nominated by a patient who shared how his consistent kindness, expertise, and commitment to patient education made a meaningful difference during their hospital stay. In the nomination, the patient noted that from the very beginning, John's positive spirit and attentiveness helped them feel comfortable and supported, adding that "anything I needed, he made sure I had. It never felt like a burden."

The patient also praised John's clear communication, professionalism, and commitment to education, noting the time he took to thoroughly explain care instructions and ensure understanding. "His patient education was a 10 out of 10," the nomination stated, adding that John's expertise, along with his supportive approach while working alongside a nurse in training, helped create a welcoming and reassuring environment and underscored the vital role he plays on the unit.

The DAISY Award is an international program that recognizes nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care. At SGMC Health, the award is presented monthly in front of the nurse's colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer's Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health's local DAISY Award sponsor.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its tagline of Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness. To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
