WASHINGTON, D.C.- U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05), a Senior Member of the Financial Services Committee, is urging Republicans to protect the Affordable Care Act's tax credits.
As part of Health Care Costs Week of Action, House and Senate Democrats joined with Democratic Governors across the country to fight for affordable health care tax credits.
"It is essential that Republicans work with Democrats to renew the Affordable Care Act tax credits," Rep. Meeks said. "Non-renewal will mean disaster for my constituents and for millions of more Americans nationwide. In NY-05, residents covered under the Affordable Care Act will see their premiums rise by an average of $2,030. While Trump's billionaire donors get massive tax breaks, families in NY-05 will be left to pay the price."
The impending expiration of these tax credits is the latest blow in the health care crisis Republicans have created. In July, Trump and Republicans passed the Big, Ugly Bill, which cuts Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) taking health care away from millions of Americans. Meanwhile, billionaire donors are reaping massive tax breaks while adding $4 trillion to America's national debt.
Rep. Meeks opposed the Republicans' Big, Ugly Bill, joining every House Democrat in voting against the disastrous legislation.
