Austin Energy celebrates Public Power Week, Oct. 5-11

Austin Energy is celebrating Public Power Week Oct. 5-11, along with approximately 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 55 million Americans.

"As a public power provider, Austin Energy focuses on our community and we listen to its priorities," said Stuart Reilly, Austin Energy interim general manager. "Since we operate right here in Austin serving our friends and neighbors, we are committed to helping them save energy and money while safely delivering clean, affordable, reliable energy and excellent customer service."

Public Power Week celebrates the unique connection that Austin Energy has had with our community for the last 130 years. Because we are community-owned, Austin Energy is customer-driven and community-focused.

• Affordability: Austin Energy has stable rates and consistently has some of the lowest electricity bills in the state.
• Reliability: Our team works 24/7 to keep the power flowing. Our system is more reliable than the statewide average for Texas utilities.
• Sustainability: We are a leader in environmental sustainability with programs that deliver renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, and expand electric vehicle access and adoption.
  • About 70% of our electric generation comes from renewable energy. Our customers can choose to power their homes or businesses with 100% wind energy through our Green Choice program.
  • Our Community Solar projects provide residential customers with access to locally generated solar energy - no home installation is required.
  • We've invested more than $100 million in solar power for our community through rebates and incentives.
• Value for customers, not shareholders: As a public power utility, Austin Energy supports essential city services such as parks, libraries and public safety.
• Helping our Neighbors: We allocate millions of dollars each year to help low-income residents pay their utility bills. We also provide emergency financial aid to customers in need, services for the medically vulnerable, and no-cost home weatherization support to help eligible residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
