Staten Island, NY - October 30, 2025 - Staten Island's business and nonprofit community came together this week to celebrate a new partnership dedicated to honoring and supporting local veterans. The event, hosted at David & Co. in collaboration with the Staten Island Performing Provider System (SIPPS), the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC), the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and the Office of Borough President Vito Fossella, showcased the launch of a new veterans discount program and highlighted ongoing community efforts to give back to those who have served.
The morning began with remarks from David Rabinowitz, Owner of David & Co., who introduced his Veterans Suit Drive, which is collecting gently used suits to be donated to veterans. Those who donate will receive 50% any in-store purchase of a new suit or overcoat. The drive runs from November 9-15, and will conclude with a cocktail reception. This is David & Co. Menswear's second year running a Veteran's suit drive.
Donated suits will benefit veterans through the Staten Island Performing Provider System (SIPPS), helping local service members look and feel their best as they transition into new opportunities.
"My grandfather fought in World War II, and his service has always inspired me to find ways to give back. Through this program, we're not just donating suits. We're helping local veterans prepare for new opportunities and showing them that Staten Island stands with them," said Rabinowitz.
Michael Matthews, Director of Veterans Programs at SIPPS, shared details about SIPPS' ongoing initiatives to connect veterans with local resources and opportunities, including the Vetsgiving campaign, which provides meals and support during the holiday season.
"Our mission is to bring together the military and civilian communities to support one another, especially our post-9/11 veterans. The challenges they face, particularly around mental health, are significant, and we all have a role to play in addressing them," said Matthews. "Young veterans experience suicide rates nearly three times higher than the general population. Programs like this not only raise awareness but also create real pathways for connection, healing, and hope."
"SIEDC is proud to stand with our partners at the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and Office of Borough President Vito Fossella to support David & Co. Menswear's 2nd Annual Veterans Day Suit Drive," said Mike Cusick, SIEDC President & CEO. "By partnering with the Staten Island Performing Provider System, David & Co. is making sure these suits go directly to Staten Islanders who have served our nation and need them most. Initiatives like this not only honor our veterans but also highlight the vital role local businesses play in strengthening our community."
"It's inspiring to see Staten Island's business community come together with local partners to support our veterans in such a meaningful way. This collaboration shows the power of business to make a real difference," said Linda Baran, President and CEO of the Chamber. "Many veterans returning home are working to get back on their feet. Programs like this give them confidence, opportunity, and a sense of belonging within the community they served. This initiative is a small but heartfelt way to say thank you, and to recognize our veterans for the service, strength, and spirit they bring to Staten Island every day."
"On Staten Island we always remember and honor the sacrifice of our veterans, who dedicated their lives to protect our country," said Borough President Vito Fosella. "That is why we are proud to partner with SIEDC and the Chamber to help give back to our active and retired servicemen. Thank you to EDC President Michael Cusick, Chamber President Linda Baran, and all participating businesses for collaborating to give thanks to our veterans. We encourage any who have served to sign up for SI VETS, and, if you are a business owner who hasn't had a chance yet, please consider taking part in this great program."
This partnership underscores Staten Island's shared commitment to ensuring that those who have served receive the recognition, respect, and support they deserve - not only on Veterans Day, but year-round.
