National Vineyard Register Project Update 25 Sep 2026

As at the end of August, the build project is half-way through. External user testing of the key features of the platform has been conducted, and further external testing is scheduled for the end of September, covering the remaining grower-facing functionality of the platform.

The platform now includes management block selection using the National Vineyard Scan overlay, planting data entry and editing, an administration dashboard for Wine Australia admin users, and a grower dashboard.

National Vineyard Scan

The National Vineyard Scan update component of the project is running on time and on budget. The training dataset (for the model) has been completed and the base model finalised. The full national scan will be completed by the end of September, providing an updated view of the total area of vineyards in Australia by location (but not by variety or ownership).

Getting growers on board

A recruitment strategy is being developed for the roll-out of the platform and recruitment of growers to supply their data - either directly or via intermediaries such as regional associations. It is expected that this will commence in October, in preparation for when the platform is ready to receive data.

The platform launch has been scheduled for 30 November 2026, after which the active recruitment phase will commence. Depending on the rate of uptake, the release of aggregated data and insights is expected to occur by mid-2027.
