By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

WHEREAS, high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, affects nearly half of all adults in the United States and is a leading risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases; and
WHEREAS, high blood pressure often goes undetected and untreated, leading to severe health complications and contributing to nearly 500,000 deaths per year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, high blood pressure disproportionately affects certain populations, including communities of color, socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, and those with limited access to health care, contributing to disparities in its prevalence, management, and outcomes; and
WHEREAS, early detection, proper management, and access to affordable, quality medical care are critical to reducing the prevalence and impact of high blood pressure and improving individuals' health and well-being;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize May 2026, as HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
