EU non-fatal work accidents incidence rate drops in 2023

In 2023, there were 2.82 million non-fatal work accidents in the EU, indicating a 3.8% decrease from 2013 (2.94 million). The incidence rate was 1 393 non-fatal accidents at work per 100 000 employed people, down from 1 686 in 2013.

Among the 21 economic activities, the highest incidence rate was in construction, with 2 899 non-fatal accidents at work per 100 000 employed people, followed by water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (2 819) and transportation and storage (2 366).

The top 10 activities with the highest incidence rates include also: administrative and support service activities (2 043 work accidents per 100 000 employed people), mining and quarrying (1 834), manufacturing (1 687), arts, entertainment and recreation (1 646), agriculture, forestry and fishing (1 610), human health and social work activities (1 507) and accommodation and food service activities (1 468).

Between 2013 and 2023, the incidence rates decreased in all of these 10 economic activities except for human health and social work activities, which registered a small increase from 1 502 to 1 507 non-fatal accidents per 100 000 employed people. The biggest decrease was recorded in administrative and support service activities (-576 non-fatal accidents per 100 000 employed people).
