Daytime outdoor watering restrictions, enacted each year as part of Lewisville's Emergency Water Management Plan, go into effect Friday, May 1, and will run through the end of September.
Regulating landscape water use can significantly reduce strain on the municipal water supply system during the hot months. Automated and manual sprinklers are not allowed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the summer months. Hand-watering and use of soaker hoses are not restricted.
Under the Stage 1 rules, residents with even-numbered addresses can water lawns on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. Odd-numbered addresses are permitted on Wednesdays and Sundays. Commercial, multifamily, and HOA properties have assigned days of Mondays and Thursdays.
Residents can report suspected violations via the OurLewisvilleTX app or by calling 972.219.3510.
Hand-watering with a hose or soaker hose is allowed anytime, as these methods greatly reduce waste compared to sprinklers. Residents should also check irrigation controllers to ensure proper programming that aligns with the designated schedule.
By embracing proper irrigation practices collectively as a community, Lewisville can reduce the annual peak demands on its water system during the scorching summer months ahead while still maintaining attractive landscapes. A few simple adjustments to watering schedules and habits can lead to considerable water savings.
The City of Lewisville encourages smart irrigation practices such as sizing spray heads for head-to-head coverage, inspecting for leaks and overspray onto the pavement, raising mower heights, and aerating the soil to improve water penetration. Upgrading to EPA WaterSense labeled, weather-based irrigation controllers also can significantly reduce overwatering.
Lewisville provides rebates for installing water-efficient equipment.
