ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL OBTAINS GUILTY PLEA, PRISON SENTENCE FOR CHICAGO MAN WHO BURGLARIZED STATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE

October 23, 2026

Chicago - Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced a Chicago man prosecuted by his office pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison for burglarizing the Cook County State's Attorney's Office after breaking into the Criminal Court Administration Building located at 2650 S. California Avenue in Chicago.

Staci Lacy, 46, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony. Cook County Circuit Court Judge Thomas J. Byrne sentenced Lacy to five years in prison.

"I am pleased with this sentence that will hold the defendant accountable for his brazen actions," Raoul said. "Those actions threatened to interfere with our system of justice and cannot be tolerated."

According to Raoul's office, Lacy gained entry into the administration building on July 22, 2024 after the building had closed to the public. Once in the building, he proceeded to the state's attorney's office where he loaded computers and personal items from office employees onto a wheeled cart. He then left the building with the stolen property. Among the items Lacy stole were computers being used by employees of the state's attorney's office who were in the middle of prosecuting a first-degree murder trial.

Lacy was identified through security camera footage which captured him entering and exiting the building, as well as through DNA left on a cigarette. Officers with the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the Illinois State Police and investigators from the Attorney General's office investigated the case.

Assistant Attorney General John H. Brassil prosecuted the case for Raoul's Special Prosecutions Bureau.
