Blue Cross NC Statement on Health Care Affordability Commission

Statement from Dr. Tunde Sotunde, CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) on the creation of the bipartisan Health Care Affordability Commission:

"North Carolina is at a tipping point on health care costs. What we have today isn't working for families, businesses, doctors, communities, or the long-term health of our state, and incremental change won't fix it.

"That's why we strongly support the bipartisan Health Care Affordability Commission. We are honored to participate and are committed to playing an active role in advancing real solutions. Bringing leaders together across sectors is exactly what this moment requires.

"At Blue Cross NC, we've been clear that the way the health care ecosystem is designed is driving costs higher, often in ways that aren't visible to the people paying for it. Being honest about that is necessary, but it's not enough. We must use that transparency to drive real change.

"This Commission is an opportunity to do just that. We look forward to sharing our ideas and perspective, while working alongside others to develop the best path forward.

"Real progress will take everyone bringing ideas, stepping up, and doing what it takes to make health care work better for North Carolinians. We're committed to being a constructive partner, focused on lowering costs, improving access, and helping build a health care system that works better for the people it's meant to serve."
