Toss announced that it shared its organizational culture and use of artificial intelligence (AI) with members of the Ministry of Education's "Organizational Culture Innovation Task Force (TF)." The exchange comes as demand for organizational-culture innovation grows within the public sector, with the Ministry of Education seeking to identify adaptable elements from the organizational culture and operating methods of the private sector.
Arranged at the request of the "Organizational Culture Innovation TF," led by the Ministry's Office of Innovative Administration, the visit was attended by 16 relevant public officials. The delegation visited Toss headquarters to explore firsthand practical cases for adopting an advanced organizational culture and improving the way people work.
The program consisted of a presentation and Q&A led by Seohyun Kim, Head of Culture at Toss. Kim introduced Toss' principles for operating its organizational culture and its approach to designing the employee experience. In particular, she focused on the operating structure that minimizes decision-making layers and maximizes horizontal communication among working-level staff under the principle of "autonomy and responsibility."
The Q&A session that followed featured concrete discussion tailored to the public-sector context. The delegation asked about practical operating approaches, including how to build trust across ranks within a horizontal communication system, and support programs for diagnosing employees' capabilities and developing their expertise.
Toss' case for internalizing AI also drew strong interest from the delegation. Toss introduced "AI Surf Day," a program for all employees to strengthen AI-related job skills, and shared its efforts and operating cases for embedding AI across the organization. Introduced this past April, "AI Surf Day" is a program designed to help employees apply AI to their actual work and boost productivity. The delegation showed keen interest in how AI technology translates into greater efficiency and performance in real work environments.
After the presentation, the delegation took an office tour to observe how Toss works, viewing firsthand the spatial design that fosters collaboration among employees and the autonomous work environment.
"Many members of the task force named Toss as a company they wanted to visit," an official from the Ministry of Education's Organizational Culture Innovation TF said. "From its user-centered language and team structures to its proactive way of working and a culture of autonomy and responsibility grounded in high trust, the organizational culture that Toss employees have developed together was deeply impressive."
"This visit is meaningful in that the organizational culture and AI experience Toss has accumulated were recognized as a meaningful reference case even for the public sector," a Toss representative said. "Going forward, Toss will continue to focus on creating better financial experiences based on its user-centered approach to problem-solving and an autonomous, transparent organizational culture."
