(Houston, Texas) - On Monday, August 17, 2026, Congressman Al Green will join Houston Haitians United, community leaders, advocates, and concerned residents for a press conference addressing the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of certain countries, including Haiti, as well as alarming concerns surrounding immigration enforcement operations across the United States. The press conference will be held on the steps of Houston City Hall, located at 901 Bagby Street, Houston, Texas 77002, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
Congressman Al Green stated, "Temporary Protected Status exists to protect human beings who cannot safely return to countries confronting extraordinary and dangerous conditions. For Haitians, those dangers are real-from devastating natural disasters to widespread crime, violence, and instability. Long before the termination of TPS, Haitians in this country were subjected to false and harmful narratives advanced by President Trump that demeaned an entire community and placed innocent people at risk. Now, hundreds of thousands of Haitians face the possibility of being returned to a country where their safety may be in danger. I am honored to stand in solidarity with Houston Haitians United and all who believe that we can enforce our laws while respecting due process and protecting human dignity."
