The University of Toledo welcomed more than 500 high school students on Wednesday to learn about the financial decisions that await them after graduation.

Rocket Budget Blast Off, hosted in partnership with Huntington National Bank, was an interactive experience designed to teach students about budgeting and personal finance. Volunteers guided participants through several games modeling the relationships among income, expenses and unexpected circumstances and reinforcing the importance of sound financial decisions.

UToledo's Special Accounts and Financial Wellness Office presented Rocket Budget Blast Off, an interactive experience designed to teach students about budgeting and personal finance, to more than 500 high school students on Wednesday.

Sixteen regional schools participated in Rocket Budget Blast Off, which also encouraged young students to consider their next steps after high school through campus tours and admission presentations at UToledo.

"Many students are making financial decisions for the first time when they graduate high school, whether that's figuring out how to pay for college or what to do with their first paycheck," said Mollee Williamson, a senior financial wellness counselor in UToledo's Special Accounts and Financial Wellness Office.

"Rocket Budget Blast Off aims to give students the opportunity to learn these financial skills before they are faced with these decisions so that they feel confident about their futures. I'm grateful to the support of our campus and community partners, including Huntington National Bank, for their commitment to creating an engaging experience that gives local high school students the opportunity to learn valuable financial skills while exploring UToledo."

Rocket Budget Blast Off is an extension of the free community programming offered by UToledo's Financial Wellness Office, which routinely partners with high schools and community organizations across the region for off-campus presentations and workshops like "Preparing to Pay for College."

The Financial Wellness Office also offers a variety of presentations, workshops and one-on-one counseling to equip UToledo students with the tools and confidence to navigate college expenses and pursue their career paths with financial stability.
