President Tamás Sulyok met with representatives of the legal community of the northern Hungarian region in Sárospatak. The purpose of the regional meetings is to discuss the present and future of the legal profession and how rural lawyers can work together to strengthen the rule of law and serve Hungarian society more effectively.
The President of Hungary said that "several substantial observations have already crystallised" during such discussions, which clearly show that rural practitioners are operating at the top of their profession. In his view, it is also possible to collect good practices and opinions, on the basis of which wishes and recommendations can be formulated. He emphasised that comments relating to education can be forwarded to universities.
Everyone's opinion is important, Tamás Sulyok stated, adding that the essence of the discussion is to encourage participants to think together. This was the third time the Head of State met with representatives of the legal professions of several counties for a roundtable discussion.
The President emphasised that the Hungarian legal profession developed in the counties because that was where the legal profession could be practised in the Hungarian language. Speaking about Sárospatak, he pointed out that Lajos Kossuth also studied law at the town's Reformed College under the famous legal scholar Professor Kövi.
