Board of Commissioners approves funding to support $27.7 million in local Oakland County road projects
Support to 36 communities brings local infrastructure improvements, strengthens economic development
June 12, 2026, OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. - The Oakland County Board of Commissioners approved $2 million in funding to help support more than $27.7 million in local road improvement projects during its June 11 Board meeting. The Board-established Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) provides funding to cities and villages throughout Oakland County for road repairs and improvements. The funding received through the LRIP is matched by the recipient community.
"Well-maintained infrastructure supports local communities by making travel safer, supporting economic growth and reducing everyday frustrations caused by poor road conditions," said Board Chair David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak). "This funding is an investment into our cities and villages in a way residents want, and they can experience it firsthand every time they travel through their neighborhood."
Since the program was established in 2016, the Board has dedicated $19 million to fund local road construction, maintenance and repair. The LRIP serves a range of large cities, mid-size suburbs and small villages across Oakland County and focuses on projects that enhance road safety, infrastructure and economic development.
"Our roads are often joked about, even maligned, but we're serious about improving the local roads residents rely on every day," said Commissioner Yolanda Smith Charles (D-Southfield), who also serves on the Board's Local Road Improvement Program Special Committee. "While projects involving repaving and resurfacing may not be the most exciting investments, it is the essential work that keeps our local roads safe and reliable."
The following table outlines the LRIP-approved projects approved, estimated project costs, county contributions and the communities that will benefit from its funding:
