[ROCKFORD, IL] - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today hosted a town hall meeting in Rockford to answer constituents' questions and hear their concerns directly. During today's town hall meeting, constituents asked her about the profound negative impacts that Republicans' "Big Beautiful Bill" will have on Illinoisans caused by the draconian cuts to basic needs services and programs middle class families rely on that Trump and Republicans included in the law to fund a massive tax cut for billionaires. Duckworth also discussed the Trump Administration's plans for immigration enforcement and threatened military deployments in Chicago. Today's town hall was moderated by State Representative Dave Vella (IL-HD-68). Photos of the Senator's town hall are available on her website.
"From slashing federal funding for critical government programs to threatening to unjustly send troops into our cities, Donald Trump's actions read like a page straight out of the authoritarian playbook," Duckworth said. "Let's not forget that just this summer, Republicans rammed through the largest Medicaid cuts in history while giving tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of middle-class Americans. The most patriotic thing you can do is show up and speak truth to power-that's democracy at work."
On Wednesday, Duckworth hosted a telephone town hall for Chicagoans to discuss how Trump's plans to send the military into the city will only undermine our military's readiness and distract our servicemembers from executing their core mission of keeping Americans safe from the real adversaries who wish us harm.
Duckworth also hosted a telephone town hall in June, highlighting the harms of Republicans' "Big Beautiful Bill" would cause, including hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans losing health coverage through Medicaid and food assistance through SNAP, and dozens of rural hospitals and nursing homes in Illinois likely closing-ultimately cutting off or restricting access to critical services for entire communities, including Illinoisans with private insurance. In May, Duckworth hosted a Veterans town hall in McHenry County.
