FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLDWICK - AUGUST 27, 2026 02:00 PM (EDT)
AM Best has assigned a Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of A (Excellent) and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (Long-Term ICR) of "a" (Excellent) to MACM Risk Retention Group, Inc. (MACM RRG) (District of Columbia). The outlook assigned to these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable. Concurrently, AM Best has affirmed the FSR of A (Excellent) and the Long-Term ICR of "a" (Excellent) of Medical Assurance Company of Mississippi (MACM) (Ridgeland, MS). The outlook of these ratings is stable. These companies comprise MACM Group.

The ratings reflect MACM Group's balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strongest, as well as its strong operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM).

MACM Group's balance sheet strength assessment of strongest is driven by the strongest level of risk-adjusted capitalization, as measured by Best's Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), stable surplus levels despite sizable unrealized losses at year-end 2022, and a conservative investment portfolio. The group's operating performance remains strong, driven by solid net investment income, which more than offsets some volatility in underwriting results, for strong pre-tax and net earnings in each of the past five years.

AM Best assesses MACM Group's business profile as limited, largely driven by the group's position as a mono-line and single-state organization that supports physicians. MACM RRG, an initially rated member of the group, was created in 2026 to facilitate measured expansion efforts within the group's region. The risk retention group will be heavily quota shared with its affiliated entity, MACM. AM Best assesses the group's ERM as appropriate for the size and scope of the organization. The stable outlooks reflect AM Best's expectation that MACM Group will maintain its overall balance sheet strength assessment, supported by risk-adjusted capitalization at the strongest level, while operating performance is expected to remain strong over the intermediate term primarily bolstered by solid investment returns.
