Rep. Mark Harris Celebrates Federal Recognition of the Lumbee Tribe

WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, Rep. Mark Harris (NC-08) issued the following statement after passage of the Lumbee Fairness Act:

"As my first bill introduced in Congress, the Lumbee Fairness Actbrings to fruition the decades-long fight on Capitol Hill for full federal recognition," said Congressman Mark Harris. "What a historic moment for the Lumbee Tribe and an honor as their representative-God is so good!"

With almost 60,000 members, the Lumbee Tribe is the largest American Indian tribe east of the Mississippi River and the ninth-largest tribe in the nation.
