August recess is over, and Congress has limited time to address several critical issues, including appropriations bills that must be passed by Sept. 30 to avoid a potential government shutdown.
Amid the appropriations process, America's Essential Hospitals is calling on Congress to eliminate the $8 billion cut to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments set to take effect on Oct. 1, along with the remaining two years of reductions. We have extended the deadline; add your hospital or health system's name to our sign-on letter through the link below before Sept. 8!
A bipartisan letter led by Reps. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) and co-led by Reps. Tracey Mann (R-Kan.) and Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) is circulating in the House and will be shared with HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr. before the Sept. 8 comment period deadline regarding the 340B Rebate Model Pilot Program.
The letter specifically notes concern that the pilot program would "severely damage community health centers, safety net hospitals, and other providers that rely on the 340B program to provide comprehensive, quality services to their patients and communities."
Share this letter with your delegation to encourage their support of this important message.
Both the House and Senate returned from August recess on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing, titled, "Examining Opportunities to Advance American Health Care through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies," on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10:15 am ET.
The Senate Committee on Finance will hold an open executive session on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 9:30 am ET to consider several nominations, including Gustav Chiarello III and Michael Stuart for Assistant Secretary of HHS and General Counsel of HHS, respectively. It will then hold a hearing at 10 am ET, titled, "The President's 2026 Health Care Agenda;" Secretary Kennedy will serve as witness.
