Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to defend Georgia's water infrastructure from cyberattacks.
Sen. Ossoff is co-sponsoring the bipartisan Water Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2025, which would help ensure the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides grants to community water systems that can be utilized for cybersecurity training. The bipartisan bill was first introduced by Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Tom Cotton (R-AR).
According to a November 2024 report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Inspector General (OIG), 97 drinking water systems serving approximately 26.6 million Americans were identified as having either critical or high-risk cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
"Our critical water systems face the risk of being compromised though cyberattacks that can threaten crucial supply chains and contaminate the drinking supply that millions of Georgians depend on. This bipartisan bill will help safeguard the heath of Georgians and protect Georgia's economy," Sen. Ossoff said.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen Georgia's water infrastructure.
Sen. Ossoff recently introduced and passed an amendment through the Senate Appropriations Committee to increase funding by nearly 50% for the Reducing Lead in Drinking Water grant program in the Senate's appropriations bill, which helps reduce lead in drinking water by giving Federal resources to States and local communities for the removal of lead pipes and water treatment infrastructure improvements in schools and child-care facilities.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff delivered over $36 million through the bipartisan infrastructure law for lead pipe replacement projects across Georgia.
In 2023, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered $119.8 million through the bipartisan infrastructure law's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) for essential drinking water infrastructure upgrades across the Peach State.
In November 2021, President Biden signed Sen. Ossoff's provision to repair and remove lead water pipes from public schools into law.
