Have you ever had a dream so big it felt impossible to chase? For me, that dream was a 21-day motorcycle road trip across nine countries in Europe. It wasn't just a vacation. It was the ultimate ride - an adventure I had envisioned for years. But the biggest challenge wasn't the road ahead. It was taking the time off without worrying about work.
That's where Cisco made all the difference.
When I first shared my plan with my manager, I half-expected to hear, "Can we manage without you?" or "That's a long time away!" But instead, I was met with full encouragement. My manager said, "We've got things covered."
And true to that spirit, I took 30 days off - fully disconnecting. My team stepped up, supported one another, and kept things running seamlessly. There was no guilt trip, no last-minute pull-backs. Just mutual trust.
As a people leader, it was deeply fulfilling to see how the team not only held the fort but thrived - showing resilience, ownership, and collaboration. It reminded me that good leadership isn't about constant presence - it's about creating a culture where others can rise.
With peace of mind, I hit the road. From the scenic Alps to the coastal curves of the Adriatic, every mile felt surreal. I rode through historic cities, tasted incredible local food, and connected with fellow riders from around the world.
For 21 unforgettable days, I was on an adventure that tested my endurance, resilience, and spirit. Snow, rain, heat - the road threw it all at me. There were moments I felt like giving up, but I made it through.
That ride was everything I had dreamed of - freedom, exploration, growth. And yet, the most powerful part of the experience was knowing that my team had everything under control - and that I could return not just refreshed, but proud.
Here's the thing - I never once worried about work. And that's what sets Cisco apart. It's not just the flexibility to take time off. It's the culture of trust, the power of shared ownership, and the belief that leadership also means making space for others to lead.
In fact, by taking this time away, I got to lead in a different way - by showing my team that rest is not a luxury, it's necessary. That chasing your passions outside of work doesn't make you less committed - it makes you more complete.
And when leaders embrace that, they give permission to others to do the same.
At Cisco, work-life balance isn't just something we talk about - it's something we live. Whether it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip, family time, or just stepping away to recharge, the support is real. We don't just lead projects - we lead people. And that means walking the talk when it comes to well-being.
When I returned, I wasn't just recharged - I was inspired. Because I had lived the kind of leadership I believe in - one rooted in trust, growth, and human connection.
