Tiger Mountain Summit Trailhead Remains Closed as Updates are Finalized

January 15, 2026

The ongoing project will increase accessibility of the trail system for different user groups.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is in the process of completing the final inspection with King County for the Tiger Summit Trailhead in Tiger Mountain State Forest The trailhead will remain closed until the following actions are implemented: 1) final inspections with King County are complete, 2) DNR has received a Certificate of Occupancy from King County, and 3) the project contracts have been closed out. DNR anticipates the trailhead to reopen as early as Spring 2026. The closure began in June 2025.

The current parking lot was built more than 30 years ago and is no longer suitable for the increased popularity of the recreation site and growing population in the area. Renovations include expansion of the lot from its current 50 car capacity to allow space for about 170 vehicles. The expansion will make the area more accessible for equestrian and mountain bike users, hikers, and include ADA parking.

To date, DNR staff and contractors have installed new pavement, a new vault toilet, ADA access ramps to parts of the trail system, stormwater improvements, and created new parking spots - including multiple spots for horse-trailers. Remaining work under the inspection process is focused on the stormwater and ADA facilities at the trailhead.

The trail system remains open; however, the trailhead closure does impact access. Limited parking is available outside the trailhead and may reach capacity quickly on weekends or other high use times. Recreators are advised to find alternative options to explore nearby, such as at the Raging River State Forest, and to have alternate plans if safe parking options are not available. For the latest information on opening dates, refer to the DNR website here: https://dnr.wa.gov/forest-and-trust-lands/tiger-mountain-and-raging-river-state-forests

Renovations at the Tiger Mountain Summit Trailhead are funded by the 2024 Capital Budget and grants.
