Team Internet’s CentralNic Registry Successfully Migrates 3.3 Million .Co Domain Names

In one of the largest domain transitions on record, a total of 3.3 million .co country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) were successfully migrated on Saturday 4 October 2025.

The migration, on behalf of Colombia's Ministry of Information and Communications (MINTIC), was led by CentralNic Registry - part of Team Internet Group's Domains, Identity & Software (DIS) division.

The .co domain enjoys a strong international reputation. Originally assigned as the country code top-level domain for Colombia, it has grown to become one of the internet's universal top-level domains. Its global relevance makes this successful migration a significant event for both Colombia and the wider digital infrastructure community.

In June 2025, following a comprehensive tender process, MINTIC announced the selection of the new .co operator Equipo PuntoCo, a partnership between Team Internet Group and Colombian domain registrar CCI. The consortium was awarded an unprecedented 10-year licence to operate the .co country code top-level domain (ccTLD).

"We are delighted to see the successful transition of the .co top-level domain," Gerardo Aristizabal, CEO of CCI and Project Director of the Consortium, said. "This process was not just a national administrative change, but an international migration. The growing global popularity of the .co domain made this one of the largest and most complex transitions in the world - both in scale and significance."

Team Internet CEO, Michael Riedl, agrees: "This deal is a strategic statement about where Team Internet is heading. Managing a digital asset of this global relevance underscores our role as a trusted steward of internet infrastructure and as a long-term partner to governments and businesses worldwide.

"The project exemplifies how we combine local partnership with global scale, translating technical excellence into enduring economic and digital impact. It sets the tone for the next decade - not just for .co, but for how we grow the DIS division as a cornerstone of the Group."

Simon McCalla, CEO of DIS, says: "This successful completion showcases the capability and professionalism of teams across the DIS division. Delivering such a complex transition on time and without disruption demonstrates why clients and partners rely on us to manage critical digital assets with confidence. I'm incredibly proud of the collaboration and expertise that made this transition such a success.

"The successful transition, completed with our partner CCI, demonstrates our capability in managing critical national internet infrastructure, entrusted to us by MINTIC. We are grateful for their trust, and we are now fully operational in supporting the digital ambitions of millions of .co users around the world."
