City of Napa Completes the Alston Park Restroom Construction Project

The City of Napa has completed major improvements at Alston Park with the opening of a new permanent restroom facility, along with surrounding improvements to parking and pedestrian access for park users (2037 Dry Creek Rd.). After months of steady progress, construction entered the final phase this October, bringing this much-anticipated community improvement to reality.

"The Alston Park Restroom Project will greatly enhance the park experience for our community," said City Manager Steve Potter. "The response from residents has been overwhelmingly positive, and we're excited to have completed this significant project that will serve park visitors for years to come."

The project provides two separate, single-user restrooms, parking lot improvements and enhanced trail connections at the park's South entrance. The new restroom facilities are designed to serve park users year-round and resurfaced and restriped parking areas will improve safety and accessibility into and out of the park. The project also includes natural trail improvements featuring decomposed granite pathways that provide better drainage and erosion control.

This project aligns with the City Council's Parks & Community Spaces Council Focus Area , which prioritizes expanding recreational opportunities and improving park infrastructure to serve residents of all ages and abilities. The initiative is funded through a combination of City resources and the Alston Park Trust Fund, allocated annually by the Napa Valley Community Foundation specifically for park improvements including drainage, trails, culverts and park amenities.

This park project represents another step forward in the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing parks and community spaces across Napa. The Alston Park improvements join recent park upgrades including the completion of Phase I of the Park Playground & Retrofit Program and queues up future restroom projects at Fuller, Westwood Hills and Century Oaks Parks, which are kicking-off their design phase this year. City Councilmembers, staff and members from the public will celebrate the opening of these new park improvements on Thursday, November 6 th from 10am to 10:30am outside the new restroom building, located in the South parking lot. This ribbon cutting event is open to anyone interested in attending.

Alston Park is located in Northwest Napa and is made up of 157 acres of passive open space. The park is categorized as a Natural Area and Open Space Park and existing park uses include conservation of natural resources, hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature study, on-leash dog areas, off-leash dog areas, cross-country running, and balloon landing. Alston Park is the second most visited park out of 54 City parks with almost 100,000 visits annually.
