On July 7-10, the 112th session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was opened in the Hague, the Netherlands. The Permanent Representative of China to the OPCW, Ambassador SHEN Bo led a delegation to attend the meeting.
The Chinese delegation actively promoted President Xi Jinping's major initiatives including the Global Governance Initiative, as well as China's achievements in compliance and international cooperation. China emphasised that resolving the issues of chemical weapons abandoned by Japan on the territory of China (JACWs) at an early date serves as a touchstone to test if Japan faces up to its historical crimes and responsibilities and fulfil its international commitments, urged Japan to earnestly fulfil its obligations under the Convention and destroy all JACWs thoroughly and completely as soon as possible to return a clean land to the world and the Chinese people. Many delegations expressed understanding and support on China's positions.
The Chinese delegation expressed relevant positions on issues including hot issues on chemical weapons and emerging technologies.
